Loire Wine Day from Paris: Chambord Castle, 6 Tastings&Lunch

About This Experience

A wine day rather than a castle day. One château — Chambord — and then the vineyards of Touraine, Vouvray and Montlouis-sur-Loire, with at least six tastings, a winemaker's lunch and a wine-expert guide who is with you from the Paris pickup to the drop-off at Hôtel de Ville.

The van holds a maximum of eight. It collects you from your accommodation, hands you a croissant and a bottle of water, and covers the two hours to Chambord while the guide sets up the region's winemaking history. Chambord itself is an audio-guided visit of about ninety minutes, which is the right amount if the castle is the supporting act.

After that the day belongs to wine. A viewpoint stop with a glass in hand and an explanation of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc; a traditional lunch at a winery or a good local restaurant, paired; and one or two family-run estates with a guided cellar visit and tasting. Weather permitting, the guide also runs a masterclass.

Two practical things. The cellars sit at about 10°C, so bring something warm even in August. And the operator reserves the right to cancel a departure that does not reach four travellers, offering an alternative date or a full refund.

• Caves and wine cellars are usually quite cold and damp (45°F/10°C), so please remember to bring warm clothes.
• The visited wineries may vary depending on availability and can be changed based on your preferences and requests, please contact us to arrange any special visits (special visits may affect prices).
