Loire Valley Royal Castles Small Group Day Trip from Paris

4.4 (12 verified reviews)

About This Experience

The same operator and the same minivan as the Da Vinci route, run as a royal-castles day instead: Chenonceau, the Château Royal d'Amboise and a third château, with a live English-speaking guide and a maximum of seven guests.

Pickup is at 07:30 from your accommodation, and the operator makes a point of the fact that you do not have to walk anywhere to meet the van. The drive is about three hours with one rest stop, and the guide uses it to set out how the Loire châteaux fit into French history before you are standing in front of one.

Chenonceau gets 11:00 to 12:30 with the guide and a room-by-room brochure. Lunch is a free hour in Amboise. The Château Royal d'Amboise follows with a guide and a Histopad video guide, and a winery visit with tasting is included in the day.

Note the difference from this operator's cheaper listings: here the guiding is live and inside, the group is capped at seven, and pickup is at your door. The trade is the price and the 6-plus age minimum.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.4/5 by 12 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

The tour was excellent and conducted at a great pace. We saw enough to enjoy, not enough to bore. The wine tasting was interesting as we are from a wine area in Australia. Please take into account that it is a long day so listen to your guide as we did and rest when you can. Olga was a well educated and friendly guide who booked us a lovely place for lunch after consulting with us. Our driver Max was amazing, driving in the Paris city and out in the countryside. He was very courteous, always there to open our doors. One suggestion for GetYourGuide is to indicate in greater detail about tipping/gratuities. As Australians we do not have a tipping culture so were unsure whether to do so or not. Would definitely recommend this trip and Olga.

Our day to the Loire Valley was our highlight during our trip to Paris. Our tour guide, Dave, was friendly and very informative. The 3 castles are each beautiful and unique in their own ways. The scenery and grounds at each castle is amazing. If you’re looking to get outside of Paris for a day I would highly recommend this tour.

The guide and the driver were fantastic. The castles were incredible! The guide could speak a bit louder, but otherwise recommend 10/10!!
